In case you thought the above-mentioned run is for charity, for children's rights or in remembrance of Steve Jobs and my lack of a formal job, please allow me to set the record straight.
No. It's just one of those runs you organise with your dear friends. But it's far more fulfilling than watching athletes run, fantasising you can do the same thing.
The reason is simple - you did it yourself. You burn the fats. You let the heart pump. You let the dogs out...
No. Just joking. My khakis and I didn't let the dogs out, or blare out Baha Men's hit song Who Let The Dogs Out while we jogged. We merely hogged the stadium till the watchman sounded the siren and thankfully, he didn't set dogs on us when we insisted on staying.
OK. Enough crap. Back to the Gombak Run.
OK. Enough crap. Back to the Gombak Run.
If you recall, yours truly once penned a blog post about ChiRunning and my Modified version of the splendid technique. In light of my shin problem, I took note of these when I ran:
- Leaning forward while running so the runner is pulled by gravity.
- Speeding up or slowing down based on the angle of the lean, not cadence.
I have upped a level with more experience today and learnt these newer running technique from ZY:
- Maintain a metronome pace of about three or four steps per second when sprinting
or pretending to run fast. That is possible when you... - Keep your steps small! If you overstretch your legs ahead of your body, you are subjecting your feet and shin to more impact and potential injury.
Ahhh. I feel so elated when I can sprint better with the pointers in mind. I feel liberated. I feel licensed to fly. I can soar like an angry bird and land on the pigs like the annoying orange gang!
For the unintiated, here's a crazy interactive video about Angry Birds and Annoying Orange:
I hope you, like me, are energised to run. If you hardly exercise, pick up running - or ChiRunning - with your friends, enjoy it for an energised body, and jaunt joyfully round the tracks with newly found vigour and vitality for life!
As for now, I'm running to my bed. Good night!
Haha.Flying gab, I just blogged about it too, in Chinese. Wanna read? :) http://ohmyfavouritethings.blogspot.com/2011/10/vff-gombak.html
